A land of treasures archaeological, cultural, and natural, Peru draws those eager to learn about the distant past – and encounter a fascinating present of colonial and indigenous influences. As our small group takes in some of the country’s highlights – Lima, Cuzco, Machu Picchu, Tambopata National Reserve, and Lake Sandoval – we marvel at the riches of an intriguing land somewhat off the beaten path.
San Antonio Program Fee: $310***
“Alamo City” also goes by the nickname “River City” thanks to its other prized possession, the River Walk. For a comprehensive historical and architectural tour of the River Walk, we will be taking a narrated informative river cruise.
The San Antonio Zoo spans 56 acres and is home to a wide variety of animals representing 750 species from around the world. It has one of the largest bird collections in the country and acclaimed breeding programs for endangered and threatened species and is one of the first “cageless” zoos in the USA.
Last Chance Forever, The Bird of Prey Conservancy” was founded in 1978 and is dedicated to the rehabilitation of sick, injured, and orphaned birds of prey, scientific investigation, and also, just as importantly, the education of the public. In addition to properly caring for the birds, LCF has designed an educational program which is seen by over 500,000 annually throughout the USA. Through this program LCF hopes to encourage a change in attitudes concerning birds of prey such as hawks, owls, falcons, vultures, and eagles.
Bracken Cave is a jewel in Texas and is the summer home of more than 15 million Mexican free-tailed bats, making it the world’s largest bat colony and one of the largest concentrations of mammals on earth. Bat Conservation International (BCI) and its conservation partners continue to purchase land around the care to conserve not only the bats, but also the many other native and endangered species found on the Bracken Cave Preserve.
